Congratulations Gwen!

By , 9 April, 2008, No Comment

Hi Everyone,

I’m sorry for the delay, I could say that I was trying to add to the suspense, but truly it was just that time and the internet weren’t on my side :(

So, my big announcement is… (this is where you would hear the drumroll) Gwen’s Paper Bag project has been published on the gallery of our favorite paper vendor Piggy Tales!! If you log onto to http://www.piggytales.com/ and click on the “Gallery”, you will see a list on the left hand side of all their paper lines. Click on Little Miss Muffet, and scroll down to the bottom and there she is, our wonderfully talented Gwen. I wanted to post the photo here as well, but with the internet down at home this morning, and the photo is on that computer and not this one…Well, you can see how technology and I have not been getting along lately!

However, Congratulations to Gwen, and when you see her in the store, let her know how great we think she is :)

as I’m still looking for a sign off, I’ll borrow my favorite again,

Spread the Sparkle,

Jessie

Happy Birthday Julia!

By , 7 April, 2008, No Comment

We had our second birthday party at the store yesterday and I have to thank Julia and Ivonne for allowing us to host her 10th birthday party. To be honest, I was a bit nervous, I didn’t know if our little workshop would stretch enough to hold 12 – 10 year olds! But stretch she did, and I believe the girls had a blast. I think it was when the pink icing from the cupcake cake (so cool!) made it onto their noses, and the giggles were louder than the music that I stopped worrying about whether they were having any fun.

This week we will be gearing up for our Grand Opening Celebration starting saturday and going all week, we have a few things marked down to 35% off (with 50% for Cherished members) and everything else is buy 2 get one free of the same category. Now when I thought up this brilliant sale, I wanted to make it easy to understand, and simple to explain, if it’s marked on sale, that’s the price, if it isn’t marked, it’s still on sale, only different. However, I didn’t take into account the computer…So a warning to my Celebration shoppers, have patience with my computer, it’s not her fault the sale doesn’t work easily in her system, it’s her owner ;) And with that said, a special thanks to those customers who let me practice on them this week, Christine and Lori especially as you did have the greatest amount of patience while we tried to work out what 24 divided by 3 was, tee hee.

Anyway, it’s a shorter blog today as I have a secret that I can’t tell you until I tell Gwen, and since I’ve known since Friday that it was going to happen today, and I worked with Gwen Saturday and Sunday, and still haven’t blurted it out to her, I can’t very well spoil it now, so I’ll check in tomorrow, and I’ll let you all know…

As my Glitter Vendor says…

Iron Scrapper

By , 31 March, 2008, No Comment
Well, we had our first Iron Scrapper Challenge on Saturday with Edna, Carollyne, Marcie, Jackie, and Allison, and although they tell me the pressure of making the ultimate card in half an hour was huge, they were all so very civilized!
Somehow, I pictured contestants fighting over aquapainters, and glitter flying through the air, but maybe I’m just seeing Ella’s future birthday parties! We had 2 winners, this time, I did beg for a “scrap-off” but the look on Edna and Carollyne’s face when I suggested we do it again, was enough to make me change my mind!
So congratulations to Edna and Carollyne who both created cards using enough techniques to score them 115 points, and win themselves a $25 Cherished Cheque. They will hold the title of Ultimate Iron Scrapper until our next competition…

Also, a huge Happy Birthday to Meghan, who celebrates her 12th birthday today, but had an awesome party with us yesterday! A special birthday hug and thank you to Meghan, and all her friends who impressed me with their manners, energy and interesting conversations! (It’s been awhile since I was 12, but I don’t think I was ever that insightful)
And finally, Thank you to those of you who were in this week and cast your vote for your favorite “Survivor Port Moody” card, we’re down one Survivor and have 5 more to go, so stop in and vote again to ensure your Survivor makes it to the end. I have started collecting cards for “Survivor Port Moody 2″, and the goal – Outstamp, Outcraft, Outlast…
see you soon,
Jessie

Cherished Beginnings…

By , 17 March, 2008, 1 Comment

I had an idea, over 6 months ago, to open a scrapbooking shop in Port Moody. The store took shape in my head slowly, but became clearer as the days went by. On January 2nd, it took on a legal name, Cherish the Thought. 2 weeks later she had a home, 3130 St John’s street. A month after that, she had colour, she had structure, and she had some embellishments!

I look around now, and although we haven’t finished fine-tuning, I am amazed at what she has become. She doesn’t look exactly like the store I envisioned, and a part of me misses that, like after Ella was born, and I found myself talking to my tummy and realizing she wasn’t in there anymore, but Cherish is as beautiful as I could ever have hoped for.

The journey to this point has been smooth in some places, rocky in others and downright treacherous as times! But as with any path you choose, there are always people along the way to help, and I must take a few lines to thank those that came to my rescue. Andrew, of course, who believed in my idea and never wavered even when I did. My mom, who checked the stars and knew all along that this was going to come together. To Tony, Pauline and Katie, for late night construction, long days babysitting, birthdays celebrated in the store, and Ella’s flu.

Special thanks to Faith and Nick, who opened their address book to me, and worked on pdf’s etc halway around the world! To Kelly, my WebGoddess who nagged me into the perfect website. To Lynn & Cody, who were able to take a line drawing I loved and make it even more beautiful. To Joanne & Ken, who made my pretty lady a sign so people would know who we were (I have never been so happy to see the word “scrapbooking” up in lights in my life!)

And I had to leave Gwen for last so I could give her the appreciation she deserves. From helping me pick products to pricing stock, to inviting all her friends to my opening, to keeping me from going insane when Ella went to the Emergency room, to just making me laugh when I needed to, and most of all, for introducing me to this wonderful craft in the first place, I’m so grateful that you are my friend!

I know this sounds like an Oscar speech, and I’m sure I’ve missed a few people, but I can’t continue, or no one will ever log onto this blog again!

They say it takes a village to raise a child, well, the same goes for this little baby, it took all of my friends to help put it together, and it will take all of you to help her grow into something we can all Cherish.
